SASO Approves Draft of Technical Regulation on “Scooters” and Vehicle Safety Requirements

Under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al-Rabiah, SASO’s Board of Directors approved in its 155th meeting 20 drafts of a number of Saudi standards and GCC technical regulations, most prominent of which were the technical regulations on self-balancing electric boards “scooters” and western water closets. In addition, the GCC technical regulation of vehicle safety requirements, which includes some updates of additional safety systems provided in vehicle models of 2017 and which will enter into force soon, was approved.

Moreover, the Board of Directors adopted, in its meeting, the updated GCC Technical Regulation on Children Toys. According to the new methodology, the Board approved a number of Saudi technical regulations related to the products influencing health, safety, and environment, such as those associated with lubricating oils, detergents, and paints.

The regulation of issuing national certificates of conformity in accordance with the IEC System of Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components (IECEE) and the general technical regulation of certificate of conformity were some of the regulations approved by the Board during its meeting. Also, the Board approved the final accounts of SASO for the fiscal year of 1436/1437 AH and reviewed the quarterly performance report of SASO for the 1st quarter of 2016.

On the sidelines of the meeting, His Excellency the Minister of Commerce honored a number of Board members for completing their terms of office.
